Playwork South East

About us

A key problem in the South East region was that there was no easy way of having a dialogue with the playworkers; the region is very large and includes tracts of rural areas alongside dense urban conurbations. The experience of being a playworker is also very different: there are people who only deliver holiday playschemes, private after school clubs, local authority services and voluntary provision. Information and support is very patchy and some areas have no support at all whereas others have found ways of networking.

There are some organisations who provide information and services for playworkers:

In 2003 Playwork South East started a project to investigate the infrastructure of play in the south east, which resulted in the 2006 report, The Case for Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) Play Hubs.

A steering group has been formed, headed by Kathryn Winfield as Chair, with representatives play and playwork including SkillsActive, Play England, KIDS PIP and 4Children, and, in December 2007 with funding from SkillsActive and Play England, Re:Play has recruited Wendy Usher and Milton Keynes Play Association to take forward their plans over a period of 6 months, to pave the way for a sustainable and robust play infrastructure.
