Possible Futures for Playwork
You are invited to prepare a brief paper on your views about what is needed for playwork in the UK.
Possible Futures for Playwork: Have you got something to say about playwork?
Possible Futures for Playwork - reflecting on what's needed. This is your chance to say something to everyone in playwork about what you think our future should be.
Thanks to those of you who have offered a paper - this is likely to be a good debate. For those of you, who had an idea but need a bit more time, we have decided to extend the deadline by a week to 7 February.
* Do you feel the playwork sector should be differently organised?
* What does playwork do well and how should we promote that?
* How do you feel playworkers should be trained or educated?
* Where should playwork fit within the government's children's workforce agenda – if at all?
* Do you feel that 'traditional' playwork is under threat?
* Should we work with parents to help develop more play opportunities?
To help you get started, there are lots more other questions filed here, see 'Possible Questions about Playwork'.
This is an open invitation to the whole playwork sector in the hope that we will get views from face-to-face playworkers, playwork tutors, playwork assessors, as well as people new to the field and those who have been around a while. We think the richness of ideas and opinions in playwork will help us plan a future that will support more playwork in the UK.
Ideally papers should be submitted by no later than 7 February 2008 so that they may be published online by Play England in February.
Play England will then host an open online discussion throughout February and March to help to the play sector come together to debate the issues.
Details
Your paper will ideally be brief (up to 1,500 words) to help playwork readers see as many views as possible. It would help if your paper included:
- a clear title
- a summary of your argument
- the main argument and background
- a list of key actions (if any)
Copyright will stay with the individual author though online
publishing rights will pass to Play England for one year so that the papers may be shared with others through the web. Papers should be submitted by 7 February to ensure inclusion in the wider debate.
To submit your papers, please send them in a 'MS Word' doc or 'rtf' file format to p.else@shu.ac.uk by 31 January 2008.
For further information on the project, contact Perry Else, the project coordinator at p.else@shu.ac.uk or 0114 225 4687.
Play England is sponsoring and managing this project, in collaboration with SkillsActive, the Joint National Committee for Training in Playwork (JNCTP), Play Wales, PlayBoard Northern Ireland and Play Scotland. The Possible Futures for Playwork Project includes papers, discussion and will culminate in a large event in June 2008.
