Foundation Degree in Playwork
We are recruiting for June/September 2008 (see the paragraph below) and invite you to register to be sure of a place. If you have any queries then contact the course leader Deborah Price on dp47@brighton.ac.uk or text or phone 07974651601.
Working with children and young people in play and out of school child care settings provides the focus for the course via the primary placement and the opportunities for visiting other placements in the second year of the course. Work based learning and practice and university-based work are closely interrelated throughout the course.
For those applicants without previous experience of studying in higher education, a ‘Study Skills' module of 20 hours will make up Stage 1 of the course. The proposed dates for this for September 2008 entrants are June 18th, 19th, 25th 26th and July 3rd 2008. All sessions are 10 – 3pm at Falmer. There will be a short essay and presentation linked to this module. The module provides a sound base for academic study. If these dates are not suitable then some of the other foundation degrees are also running similar study programmes and there would be a possibility of joining these – please contact the course leader for further information. Please note: those applicants with previous experience at Higher Education level may be able to join the course directly at Stage 2 – this will be discussed with the course leader upon receipt of applications and/or at interview stage.
The University based element includes sessions on Fridays and Saturdays (10.00 – 3.00) approximately every 4 weeks during the academic year which includes taught sessions, discussion groups and smaller reflective practice groups. In between sessions students will undertake tasks and communicate with each other and with the course tutors via ‘student central' – an online university site. Students will have access to a mentor who will coordinate small discussion groups at a venue local to the student.
